2.5 K-V6

in all seriousness, how tough is the V6 engine in these?
i know the 4 potters had problems, but i've hard that the v6 wasn't half has bad for HGF

This same question will of course be asked on MG/Rover forums

Any car. buy it, fix it, break it, fix it, use it, etc etc. Something along the lines of that song by daft punk. Technologic. I like the zs 180's.

very early kv6's were fairly notorious for HGF, however as with the i4 variant most of these issues were solved before the ZS rocked off the line, later ones are much improved, weak points are inlet fannymould issues (internals are made of plastic and the rotating parts wear and oval and then leak and cause problems) and issues with the variable intake system. However there are good write ups out there that cover curing these issues.

Another thing worth noting, the cambelt setups in these is fairly special with no tensioner at the back for inlet to exhaust drive and the inlet pulleys are 'floating', not advisable to use cheap belts and fitting a new one needs the right timing tools.

Yeah I saw the stuff on the timing belts etc elsewhere, Wierd design tbh.

I was mainly concerned about having 2 Headgaskets to worry about. Talkin to my uncle recently he reckoned they gave poor fuel economy in relation to their power output.

Last k-series. had was a 1.6 in a 400, I popped that in 3k miles!

all k-series are great engines l4 or otherwise.

yes they were highly strung, and yes they didnt cope with lack of basic maintenance, but that is all it is. highly advanced engine for the time, even hasnt really been outdone by much today. revs all day long without issue and so long as you perform regular checks and maintain the engine, she'll stay that way

Cool, cheers guys.

Reason I asked was I saw a ZS taxed n tested, cracked Thermostat housing - 500 quid

After writing that sentence above though I'm concerned if its overheated...
