205 1400 Rally Car

Aint been on here for a while and been quite busy building a rally car and trying to keep to a tiny budget was hard ha

so really it started off as a standard 1.1 road going car




then i stipped it down put a roll cage and got a 1400 from another car fitted Diesel spring to the front , Sump and tank guards and all the usual things like lights and all that

This engines bog standard apart from the K&N and a Gti back box with the packing taken out of it and it could still catch a 1900 205 gti on a rally

so i built the car to do the bro preseli rally so we had a run and were car 75 me and the Nav were total novices and never done a rally before

We had 2nd in class 3 and 36th overall so not to bad for our 1st rally

Another rally car in midwalesmodified!! Top work! One thing though, is your K&n an induction kit or just a panel filter? If its an induction kit I'm pretty sure they are mounted in the wrong place behind the engine just above the exhaust manifold where it will only suck in hot exhaust gases so it won't do anything for your engine, so put the original airbox on and fit a panel filter.

more updates to come soon ive been putting gti brakes on teh front running a brake line through the car and ive modified a 4 branch manifold from a saxo to fit a 205

another thing to do is rebuild me old 1.1 gearbox and put that on the car as it has a better gear ratio it will only have a top speed of about 90 mph but itl get there fast as you dont really need the top end for rallys just the acceleration

been quite busy getting the car ready for the rally last weekend

since the last rally ive put another rear bem on the back re routed the brake lines inside the car and i put 1600 gti calipers on the front with some 2nd hand red stuff pads 2nd hand bilsteins on the rear wich i borrowd from another car we have on the yard

jobs for the next rally now is re modify the 4 branch and put a new lower ratio gearbox in

We competed on the Welsh Dragon Tyres Road Rally starting car 69





We took it easy on the 1st few whites and got passed by a mk2 escort

but as the night got on we pushed more and more catching a 205 gti and a chevette but getting held up behind them for about 8 miles which cost us a bit of time

after passing them we got into some local territory and caught a red top nova which i was fairly pleased with

got to end to see that the mk2 that passed us on the white hadnt finished soo theres more to rallying than flat out in the first few miles haha

so need a new gearbox as ive lost reverse and it sounding like its got a styraight cut in it i think its quite Fu**d

finished 27th overall out of 28 finishers and 75 had started was ok for our 2nd time out

not sure wat car he was in..
told me the bottom of the jungle was a 90 right and u had to drive up the bank or sumthing tho to get round it it was that tight lol

Im sure ive still got a shed full of 205 parts mst of them gti and i no for a fact ive got a lovley 1.9 gti engine thats had alot of work and a nice pink dimma 205 and that thing shifts but its set up for circit raceing well done on the results man dont think id b able 2 keep it flat 2 woried bou hurtin the car lol

Any updates here then? Were you out on the night owl or border 100?

cars in the shed atm bit of welding done some bilsteins on the front and changed all the bushes on the tca so hopefully will have a much stiffer front end .

no i was out marshalling on the night owl

next event is 1000 lanes and il be doing classic tracks in a nissan micra the weekend after for a laugh haha

The 2 rough events eh? Do you know where the classic tracks starts? If its bot too far away I'd like to pop down and say hi.

im not to siure about the 100 lanes but i know classic tracks is quite rough
change on plan now as i coudnt find a gearbox for the micra im using the 205 for the classic tracks

classic tracks starts in west wales rally spares i think round that area if your there pop over for a chat

How did you get on on the classic tracks? Unfortunately I have a rotten tooth which I got an infection on so I wasn't able to pop down.

we had 1st class 3 and 17th overall on the classic tracks and a blown engine put us out on the 1000 lanes so we had a mad week changing engines and getting 3 other cars ready for teh event too
