i want to sand my wheels down ready for spraying whats the best grade of sandpaper to start with to sand the original paint on the wheels

I used 240 on mine to get out all the imperfections, and then 1500 after that. I think you're supposed to go finer again, but I didn't have any finer and finished it off with some polish.
