some bad news :/ update 02/02/11

Righty, well i think you lot should all know so im not having to tell the story over and over and stories getting mixed up...

Well basicly i may be loosing my license after a random check the other night in aber ended with my car being impounded

turns out i have an invalid drivers licence due to a major f*ck up at the dvla. For some reason it has auto only on my licence even tho it shouldnt, and as my car is manual, they trying to do me for no licence, and as my licence is invalid so will be my insurance, so, being slapped with no licence and no insurance

the reason for the mess up, when i did my back in, due to the injury i had to notify the dvla, and when they rang me to confirm the details, they asked me if it was to be auto only or full manual, and by then id recovered enough to drive so they agreed it would be fine to keep it full.

so for the past 3 years iv been driving on a licence iv been led to believe to be a full drivers licence, driven multiple manual cars with no problems when pulled for checks or producers, and all along had a restricted licence which i shouldnt have.

just waiting for the court summons, hopfuly they will recognise the mixup...dont know what i will do otherwise

Money. I presume if it goes to court and he loses, he will haveto pay all the legal charges as well as lose his licence and car (I think?).

If you've still got any letters from the DVLA from around that time, go dig them out (I guess you won't have it anyway considering you've moved at least 3 times since then. I presume it was all done over the phone anyway so you won't have any record of it to prove yourself right... but then hopefully that means the DVLA won't have any record of it either.

Get yourself into the Citizens Advice Bearau and ask their advice, sometimes they are useless, but sometimes they are really helpful.

What was the police officer like? Was he trying to find a reason to book you, or is it just one of those things? I'm amazed that you didn't get picked up for it by a certain officer in McDonalds the other day.

the copper seemed quite sympathetic but said as thats what the computer was saying then he has to go by it

@claymore, its down to a new licence they gave me since i passed, but changed it when they shouldnt have

DVLA are always making cockups with licences, before i sent mine off to be renewed I took a photocopy of the original and had a solicitor sign it, if you can prove you'v passed your test by going to the test center where you passed, the courts will throw the case out.

My dad always photocopies his, apparently it was common for bikers to send their driving licence off, and get it back without the bike licence on it

already had a ban, and had my licence revoked, and i have 9 points with another 3 pending which is what im waiting for the court summons

know how u feel when ur licence is in jepordy

best thing u can do is argue it, when i went to court for no insurance it was a genuine mistake, my soliciter told the judge this, so they offered me a 28day ban, get licence back clean, or take 6 points which meant i lost my licence anyways, thats why i chose the ban!

then i got it revoke as i got 6points within the 2yrrs anyway!

and now i got cought doing 37 in a 30 :/ gooted mate

Gutted for you To be honest the DVLA are fukin useless, don't know how many times they've been on the news and programmes like watchdog with complaints. They're a bunch of retards, good luck with whatever you do next.

that could explain why only now anyone has noticed as they will have been given extra training in the subject etc, but still, i should hopfuly have mine back very soon

Well, moreso that they are trying to meet targets and probing as far as they can into peoples licences to find mistakes that they can do people for.

righty then an update on this, had my court hearing today, could of gone eaither way, as even tho it was an admin error, if the dvla deny resposability then id be screwed

well...it went alot easier than I expected! told them what happened, ie the dvla recognised the problem and gave me a full licence with out even a medical check, so I had to wait a while for them to contact the dvla to check the details of my licence.

Then without me having to beg or persude them they droped all charges!
