Can't do fires in it because of the backdraft it just blows the smoke back into the living room! Also, chimney sweep will be ok (he removed 7-8 birds last time!) but I cant afford to do that every couple of months!!! Just need a new chimney top, but I'l probibly be posting on here again that i've fallen off a ladder if I give it a go!

try opening a window, that might help, we had loads of problems in out old house, turns out that as it was a cottage, the chimney was low in comparison to the ground( it sloped up towards the back), so wasnt getting enough draft, we stuck a piece of ally pipe with loads of holes drilled in it in the top, make the chimney about 1/2 foot higher, and the holes helped create some draft problem cured

i have no probs in my current house, just wen the doors opened, but again, thats cause its creating a draft

on another subject as its the negative thread, may have flames pouring out of the volf at the side of the road yesterday...

Wrong type of chimney, the guy removed the original chimney and slated over it, it now has a metal pipe effectivly sitting out the roof with a big top on it. All I need to do is mesh it to stop the birds, but I don't have a ladder long enough to get onto the roof, and I will fall off!
